Little Joe Otter is a North American River Otter. They are in the same family as weasels. River otters are semi-aquatic mammals with fully webbed toes and strong, short legs. Their long whiskers help detect prey underwater. On land, river otters can run up to 15 miles per hour. They are very social and are known for their playful nature, often seen sliding off embankments into water, wrestling, chasing their tails, and other playful activities. Otters communicate using growls, whistles, screams, and body posture. Most river otters live in dens dug into the ground.
