Bob White

Bob White is the name of the bobwhite character in the Thornton W. Burgess book The Adventures of Bob White.  Bobwhites are the most common species of quail.  Their brown and black patterned feathers give them excellent camouflage, which is important since they are ground-dwelling birds (often heard more often than seen).  These birds get their name from their whistle. For protection, bobwhites travel in coveys, sleeping at night in a tight circle with tails to the center.  This enables them to flee quickly if they sense danger.  Due to habitat loss, their population has declined in recent years.
