Thornton W. Burgess wrote about North American wildlife, many of which we can view in our own backyard and neighborhood. As I was reading these books to my kids, I found that there were animals they had never heard of or seen (we don’t talk much about minks or muskrats around here!). I wanted to put this information all in one place to help future readers visualize each character in the stories and know a bit more about each one. I know in The Burgess Bird Book, he tells stories about a variety of different birds. I hope to have a page dedicated to this at a later date. There’s so much to learn and discover. Keep reading!

Below are many of the animal characters found in the Burgess stories. They are in alphabetical order. Click on the picture to view information about each animal (not all animals have dedicated pages, so please be patient as we continue building our site!). You will find out where this animal lives, what kind of food it likes to eat and more! If you see an animal character not listed, send me a message and I’ll add it to our list.
